Teach Your Children About Electrical Safety (Part 2)

We've discussed the importance of teaching young children and teens the importance of electrical safety, it's just as important for those young adults that are nearing the end of their college years or high school years and embarking out on their own. Electrical safety is just as important in dorms and apartment living as it is within the home. If your child is getting ready to leave the nest, equip them with appliances that are appropriately marked with the "UL-mark" for electrical safety, an approved fire extinguisher, and the knowledge of electrical safety. It's important that their apartment or dorm has appropriate evacuation procedures, properly maintained smoke alarms, and that fire escape plans are conducted on a regular basis.

This is certainly an exciting time as your child considers his or her next steps. Ensure they are safe! For more electrical safety tips, click here.

Electrical safety is an important part of every household, especially if you're a parent. Teaching your child(ren) about the importance of respecting electricity and its potential hazards should be discussed with growing children. Be sure to mention to your kids the importance of not playing with electrical outlets as very young children. Then, as they grow into teens and are actually using electricity, be sure to warn them of the dangers of overloading an outlet with too many plugs and not to use electrical appliances (such as hair dryers) near water. All of these hazards can cause electrical shock and even death.

Although we require electricity in our daily lives, its power can be potentially harmful if not used properly. The safety of your home and your family is very important to us at Watts & Holmes Electric Services. Please feel free to call us 24/7 at 828.358.1036 or click here  to contact us. Homeowners often think of home maintenance as a "labor of love". Although it isn't something we always enjoy, it's certainly needed to assist in energy efficiency, improve a home's re-sale value, maintain warranties, and to prevent large repair costs down the road. Regular maintenance is a simple way to "love your home". From changing the furnace air filter every year to routine service on your car, such required maintenance is necessary for all of the important equipment that makes your life run smoother.

For instance, it's a good idea to have your home's electrical systems thoroughly inspected each year. This is especially important if your home's an older home or hasn't been inspected for some time. Some older forms of electrical panels are outdated and are no longer considered safe. It's a good idea to have a certified Electric Services contractor such as Watts & Holmes Electrical Services take a look to ensure it shouldn't be replaced with an approved, safer electrical panel. What's more, having your home's entire electrical systems inspected to ensure the safety of your home and your family.
